A Study of Hadoop Developers from Karmasphere
Karmasphere, a a Big Data Intelligence (BDI) software company bringing Apache Hadoop power to developers and analysts, has published the results of a survey among Hadoop users. The report can be downloaded from ☞ here (PDF).
Interesting notes:
- Within a year, 86% of projects have moved to either active development or production
- In 68% of the cases, the first use of Hadoop was not mandated by someone higher in the organization
- the top reasons for using/evaluating Hadoop:
- mine data for improved business intelligence
- reduce cost of data analysis
- log analysis

- top challenges in adopting Hadoop:
- steep learning curve
- hiring qualified people
- availability of appropriate products and tools
